We support methods proven to produce long-term healing of persistent non-cancer pain.

Our goal is to compassionately treat and prevent chronic non-cancer pain.

Cancer Disclaimer:

How Chronic pain is treated depends on its source. For individuals with cancer, chronic pain is treated differently than it would be from an injury or nerve damage. If you are interested in learning more about cancer-specific chronic pain, we invite you to explore Cancer Research UK. Please note that our website content does not address cancer-related chronic pain.

What is the difference between Acute and Chronic Pain?

Acute pain is short-term (like from an injury or surgery) and can lead to chronic pain.

Chronic pain is pain that persists over months or years, like fibromyalgia or a joint replacement that never healed right.

If you want to know what pain “is” in the body, check out the video on the left.

Opioids (certain pain medications) can cause acute pain to turn into chronic pain and lower natural pain tolerance.

Learn more about Acute Pain

Acute pain doesn’t always have to be treated with opioids, but work closely with your doctor to make the choice that is right for you. Most short-term use won’t damage your system, but if other pain treatments and medications can get you safely through to healing, we recommend those instead.

Learn more about Chronic Pain

Chronic pain is difficult to get rid of once you have it, but managing it is possible. Every person is different, and we encourage you to find the treatment that is right for you.

Read About Opioid Alternatives

Opioids destroy our natural pain tolerance and make us depend on them to get through everyday life. One in ten opioid users will experience opioid addiction, which is different than dependence. Learn more about alternatives to opioids here.
