Opioid addiction is an unintended consequence of chronic or persistent pain treatment. We call it an accidental addiction that can result from long-term use of prescription pain relievers. Signs of opioid addiction include:
- Mood swings, depression, anger and irritability
- Marital and relationship problems
- Loss of friends and socially isolating
- Difficulty performing at work or school
- Believing you need opioids to feel ‘normal’
- Stealing or borrowing money to obtain opioids
- A strong desire for opioids
- Use of larger amounts over time
- Spending a great amount of time trying to obtain opioids
- Experiencing withdrawal symptoms such as feeling depressed, vomiting, diarrhea, fever, and insomnia after reducing or attempting to stop use
Our mission is to reduce this serious consequence while we continue to help you with your pain. If you are showing signs of opioid addiction, this is a serious health condition. Like other serious health conditions, such as diabetes or high blood pressure treatment is necessary. If you or someone you care about is suffering from accidental opioid addiction, please seek treatment from any of the following local treatment centers:
